Weekend In Paris

Paris is a beautiful city.  I know, this is common knowledge, but it really is  The last time I was in Paris I was twelve and I don’t have the clearest memories of it (although I should because twelve is not young, but I have the worst memory ever!), I think I was more concerned with visiting Disneyland, which I remember very clearly indeed.

We were in Paris for four days, two of which were spent at Roland Garros, the tennis French Open.  The other two were partly travelling days but we were able to make the most of them with some sight-seeing.

Unfortunately when we arrived was pouring rain.  It’s always slightly disheartening when the weather left behind in Scotland is better than that of your destination, but we were prepared and had booked tickets for the Musee D’Orsay.  (Traveller tip by the way, book your tickets before you go, there was a giant queue for non ticket holders).

I adored this art gallery.  The impressionists are my favourite artists and it was great to see so many in such a beautiful building.  The only downside was that no Prince fell in love with me as I admired my favourite painting (yes, I was channeling Blair Waldorf for Gossip Girl fans), but that was possibly a tad ambitious.

[one of my favourites, Dancers on the Stairs by Edgar Degas]

Our first evening we trekked through the rain to meet some friends for dinner in a lovely little restaurant called Morgane in the 15th arrondissement.  My meal was essentially a celebration of butter and it was delicious!

The following two days were incredible, fulfilling my dream of watching Rafael Nadal win a match at Roland Garros.

We had tickets for the 3rd round matches on Phillipe Chatrier and saw , amoung others, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Jo Wilifred Tsonga and, of course Rafa (the only man ever to win 8 of the same Grand Slams – vamos!- ok, I’m done).

On our last day was gloriously sunny and we walked around the Ile de la Cite to see Notre Dame, which is a beautiful building.

Then wandered through the left bank area down to the Jardin du Luxenbourg checking things off our food list – bread filled breatfast, crepes, macarons.

I also spotted this gorgeous shop called Sabre which was was closed but I have found the online shop, I could have spent a lot of money here.
